York House Inn is Georgia’s oldest bed and breakfast.
As one of the states iconic destinations, we are proudly listed on the National Register of Historic Places, but we are not an inn that time forgot. We have served those that have wandered to our North Georgia mountain inn for thirteen wonderful decades. Nestled at the foot of the Appalachian mountains guests experience our agrifood, adventure, romance, relaxation and unsurpassed hospitality. Come enjoy our fine selection of room accommodations with period antiques and private baths recalling the “resort era.”
Our original home dates from the 1840’s, with dovetailed chestnut log construction visible "behind the chimney" off the living room and in the former servants quarters "Roc Room" in our lower level. The Inn began operating in 1896 and expanded in 1907 to care of workers building The Tallulah Falls Railroad, and then borders and vacationers to the area. The Inn is the oldest continuous business in Rabun County, with a style never distorted but frequently improved upon. We are nestled near the only visible reminder of the railroad in the picturesque valley or gap, just a quarter mile off the "cabbage highway". Our view of the Little Tennessee River Valley of the Blue Ridge Mountains is only made better on our unique two-story veranda.
We offer easy access to a wide range of activities and sights around Clayton and Dillard Georgia and are a skip up to Sky Valley and Highlands North Carolina, and beyond. Black Rock Mountain, Tallulah Gorge (The Grand Canyon of the East), the Chattooga River and lakes Rabun and Burton are just minutes away. Enjoy some of Georgia's fine wineries, several distilleries, rafting, fishing or antique shops before experiencing our vibrant Farm to Table dining spots.
We offer the perfect balance of adventure and do-nothingness... so untrendy...we could be trendy! Past generations to present day millennials enjoy our unplugged atmosphere just as much as the 21st-century possibilities. Tesla and EV chargers meet our Hemlock forest, pre Civil War spring house, walking paths, or a rock on the historic veranda. Few TV's here, so enjoy North East Georgia's ONLY Little Free Library located in our spring house. You can still enjoy the convenience of our guest room Cubiemini access to plenty of USB and power plugs and of course free Wi-Fi. Our hand-hewn Roc Room beckons with TV and DVD (if you have to), and a fully stocked honor bar complete with wine for the picking from our local vineyards. Whether you are looking for adventure or romance you will find our accommodations to be spacious, private, comfortable, quirky and creaky. Come visit us and make your own history in the beautiful mountains of Northeast Georgia.
